Values – Ministry as Lifestyle

By Mike Henry Sr.

Everything about faith in Christ opposes our normal motives and ways of living, or natural lifestyle. Jesus called us to love God and love others (Matthew 22:36-40). He asked us to put others ahead of ourselves (Philippians 2:3). He asked us to do the best we could for the people least able to do the same for us (Matthew 25:40).

The work Jesus gave us to do can be called by a number of terms, but “ministry” is the one I use most often. Ministry is service, plain and simple. We serve others so they might see the effect Jesus has on his followers. The Holy Spirit gives us the strength to serve and he makes Jesus visible when we do.

But I’m only the expert in one lifestyle. I don’t know about your lifestyle or that of anyone else, really. I’m not the kind of person who spends a lot of time at church events. Almost every job I’ve ever had required me to commute some distance to work and it was difficult to get back to my suburb in time to take part in the myriad local church activities. I don’t know most of my neighbors. I know the people I work with, or I try to. And they generally come from all over the metro area.

Follower of One values ministry as a lifestyle. We want to encourage each other to make Jesus visible where we are. God has a plan for you to make Jesus known. We acknowledge our first value is to begin each day asking God what he would have us do.

Then, we minister, or make Jesus known, as our normal course of life. We want to help you give your life away one day at a time. When we give our time and energy to make Christ known, we become dependent on God to make our life matter and to make it enjoyable.

We want to give our life to Jesus and help others find their life the way Jesus instructed. Matthew 10:39 Jesus said, “Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.” Can we help you give your life away as a minister and follower of Jesus?

This is the first of our core values. Check out all 6 here.
